Caring for delicate bras By Chantelle Bras Blog at 2011-09-14 00:16:28

There is a reason why bras are also categorized as delicates. They are quite small and delicate in terms of material and therefore should be handled with a lot of care. Since these are the closest things to your skin for a good part of the day, keeping them clean is of vital importance. Before you get down to cleaning your bra, always read the instructions on the tag clearly. It will tell you all the dos and donts when it comes to caring for your bra.
If you do not find the tag, here are some basic rules for you to follow. Always wash by hand in cold water and use a good quality but mild detergent soap on them.
Here is how you can wash it by hand. Fill your sink with cold water and add in a few drops of liquid detergent. There reason cold water is used so that the bras material remains intact for a longer period. Hot water tends to break down material after a while. Soak your bra for a few minutes after which you gently rub all the areas between your fingers. Pay extra attention to the shoulder straps and the band around your back. Drain out the sink and refill it with cold water and use this to rinse your bra. Allow the bra to stand for a few minutes in this water. Squeeze out the extra water gently.
Make sure that you drip dry your bras on a flat surface that is not directly exposed to the sun. Ideally never put your bras in the washing machine. If you absolutely must, then put them in during a delicate cycle and in cold water. Make sure you separate the colored ones and always hook up them up before you put them in the wash.
Tumble dry your bras on a low setting if you must and always make sure to place them in a lingerie bag when doing so. To ensure your bras last you a while, make sure you buy multiples in the kind you like and that fit you well. Most manufacturers have this tendency of discontinuing certain lines of bras. Never wear the same bra too often. It will loosen out at the straps and the cup and be completely wasted. You know it’s time to buy a new bra when it becomes to ride up on your back or run down your shoulders or loosen at the cups. You will need to replace bras every two years.
